Specially designed for sample preparation and quality control
The milling machine HS-F1000 combines innovative technology and full flexibility with compact and robust design. Key features are shortest preparation time, easy automation and top-level quality- at an unbeatable price. The HS-F1000 has been specially developed for requirements of QC laboratory with all the decade-long HERZOG expertise in engineering and sample preparation.

The operator, the robot or a belt transport system drops the sample at the transfer position of the HS-F1000. As the HS-F1000 mills the bottom sample surface, the sample is already in a defined zero plane position. Time-consuming measurement of sample height is therefore not needed. Subsequently, the mobile support -coming from above- clamps the sample and transfers it to the milling spindle where it is milled from below. This sequence -speed-optimized in all sub-steps- is saving valuable seconds which is especially important for time-sensitive production samples. 

The design of the HS-F1000 guarantees high flexibility to meet the particular needs of the customer. During manual operation, the operator inserts samples via the front door. The default input position is on the left machine side but might be easily changed to the right side. In automatic mode, samples can be inserted either via the lateral or the back-loading openings using a robot, conveyor belt or magazine. The different access possibilities open up many options to integrate the HS-F1000 in any kind of automation setup. 

The HS-F1000 is a very compact machine that allows an uncomplicated installation even in tight locations and compartments. The volume of the HS-F1000 is three times smaller than standard CNC mills used for sample preparation. During installation, machine dimensions permit an uncomplicated transport through regular industry doors. 
In container labs, the HS-F1000 easily fits into standard cabins and gives you more leg and elbow room. In larger robot cells, the small machine base provides space for more and bigger equipment to be integrated in the automation.

Easy maintainability
In spite of the small machine size, the HS-F1000 has an excellent serviceability and accessibility. The interior has been optimized to guide all chips fallen off into the front chip containers for manual or automatic removal. Comfortable access can be made to the main machine parts including spindle, motors and v-belt for maintenance, exchange and repair. Switch cabinet and the majority of pneumatic components are located at the rear side and are easily reachable for operators and service engineers.

Due to simulation-based design methods, the HS-F1000 has been optimized for sample preparation purposes. The machine frame is characterized by FEM-optimized shape and perfect damping through mineral composite casting. This leads to significantly reduced vibration levels and brilliant milling results even for extremely brittle pig-iron samples.

Highest reproducibility through automatic sample preparation
The basis for optimum results in optical emission and X-ray fluorescence analysis is a fully-automatic functional sequence during sample preparation. Herzog milling machines deliver the basis for reliable analyses because they guarantee the highest level of reproducibility through program-controlled, automatic processing of samples.

Perfect integration through a modular design
Herzog milling machines are built in modular form. In this way, they can be perfectly integrated into existing operating sequences. They can also still be integrated into automatic systems at a later stage without any problems. Herzog products are moreover designed for continuous use under rough operating conditions. That guarantees long service life and high reliability.

Stored program controller
The Simatic S7 SPC controller – other controllers can also be integrated- guarantees an error-free automatic grinding process for sample forms up to 800°C. Up to 16 programs, defined by parameters, can be saved and protected by passwords. The processing steps- sample clamping, measurement of sample height, use of milling cutter 1 and/or 2- all take place automatically.

Feed speed, milling depth and cutting speed can all be set on the swiveling control terminal. Special programs for (patented) automatic deburring of round calibration samples are available in combination with an optional special milling head. The controller display keeps you informed the whole time on the current operating status. The specified control and monitoring processes are the basis of precise analyses since they guarantee the reproducibility of sample processing.

Safe and operator-friendly
The HS-FF is completely enclosed and sound-insulated. Emissions are reduced to a minimum. Numerous safety circuits guarantee optimum protection for the operation personnel. When using the HS-FF in a container laboratory the sample can be optionally fed in from outside the container via an infeed hood with an interlocking system and then conveyed to the milling unit by means of a transport system.

HS-FF: Automatic Milling Machine

Preparation of various sample types
The HS-CF is the ideal machine for the fully automatic processing of cylindrical and conical steel and iron samples. A wide variety of sample shapes can be processed including round and angular samples as well as samples with and without mounting pin. Moreover, it is possible to process other sample shapes by arrangement. The only prerequisite here is that the sample must have two parallel lateral surfaces. These are required in order to fix it firmly in the clamping device. The HS-CF can handle all types of cast steel with different ranges of hardness.

Flexible sample preparation
According to sample type and analysis procedure, different preparation steps can be selected. Samples can be cut with one or two separating cuts. One possibility is to cut off a sample for the OES. The other possibility involves the extraction of a slice of varying thickness between 4 to6 mm. At a later stage, it is possible to punch samples (e.g. with the HUST) from this slice for the CNS analysis. The milling head is pre-selected to suit the quality of the steel. Single and multiple milling of samples is available with infinitely adjustable feed rate, in-feed and rotational speed. Cooling is possible after each preparation step.

Designed for manual and automatic operation
The input of samples can either be manual by the operator or automatic by a robot or via conveyor belts. Alternatively, a variety of input magazines are also available. These magazines allow input of samples to be cut before milling or which do not require any cutting.

In automatic mode, the samples can be fed directly into the machine by the robot. The cut slice, as well as the milled sample, are released automatically from the machine and can be further processed. The cut slice can, for example, be transferred automatically to the HUST in order to punch samples for CNSanalysis.

Optimal milling
Two independently operated precision milling spindles can be fitted with milling cutters for various material grades. Thus there is no need to exchange tools when changing from steel to iron and vice versa. The extremely sturdy spindle bearings permit safe, sustained processing of even the hardest material grades.

Optimal cutting
The intelligent servo motor torque control guarantees particularly effective material cutting. The sturdy cutting disc drive in conjunction with the HERZOG high capacity cutting disc guarantees top speed with maximum surface quality.

Automatic sample preparation for more precise analysis
Automatic sample preparation for the optical emission- and x-ray fluorescence analysis with all its advantages is achieved with HERZOG milling machines in modular design. The automatic working process with the program controlled milling performance leads to a drastic improvement in reproducibility of the sample preparation and hence to best possible analysis results.

With HERZOG milling machines in modular design combinations according to customer requirements are available. According to its shape, the sample can be automatically cut before milling. The fully automatic operation saves time and cost. All HERZOG milling machines are entirely enclosed, noise insulated and equipped with all safety features for the protection of the operating personnel.

Program control prevents operating errors
All parameter important for the milling process like milling head advance, milling depth and spindle speed are adjustable. They are directly, reliably and continuously program controlled. Errors caused by incorrect handling or adjustment are ruled out. Access to the program parameter is only possible using a password.

Herzog milling machines are especially designed for sample preparation for the optical emission- and x-ray fluorescence analysis. HN-SF: Automatic Cutting and Milling Machine

Automatic procedure
Milling depth, feed rate, and spindle speed can be preselected. The milling depth is repeated without renewed setting, even on samples of different height. When the sample has been inserted into the clamping device and the machine started, the operation cycle is accomplished automatically.
High quality, fast processing
The sturdy design and high drive rating of the machine permit spindle speeds and feed rates right up to the load limits of the reversible carbide tips. This means that the machining times can be kept extremely short. Two opposed hydraulic cylinders advance the milling spindle towards the sample at rapid traverse speed, returning to its starting position at rapid traverse speed when machining has been completed.

Reproducible samples surfaces for analysis
Top-quality sample surfaces are obtained as a result of the milling spindle speed and miller feed rate. The exact automatic repetition of the preset milling conditions for all samples guarantees excellent reproducibility of the sample surface.

Safe operation
The machine is completely enclosed and requires only a minimum of operation and maintenance. The milling process can be observed through the window in the machine cover. When the cover is opened, a safety switch automatically de-energizes the machine. The cover can be opened on both sides of the machine column, meaning that the tips are easily removed.

HPF: Semi-automatic Milling Machine

Wide range of applications
The HERZOG HAF/2 is for preparation of nonferrous samples (e.g. aluminium, lead, zinc, tin and their alloys) for XRF and OES analysis. The HAF/2 suitable for all sample shapes ( e.g. mushroom shaped, cylindrical, rectangular, etc.) and different dimensions up to a diameter of 70 mm.

Easy operation
By manual sample insertion, the sample is clamped using a three-jaw chuck fixture. The milling depth is adjusted by high-precision spindle using a handwheel. The HAF/2 is equipped with an automatic crossfeed with fine speed control. After the completion of the milling process, the cross slide is raised automatically to prevent any damage to the sample surface. The tool revolving speed may be adjusted to different materials to obtain optimum surfaces.

Compact, robust and safe design
The HAF/2 is designed for long-lasting and easy operation. For sample cooling alcohol is used which is automatically deducted.
